remedial pilates

Therapeutic exercise forms a large part of what we do at Balanced Physiotherapy & Pilates. Exercise strengthens muscles which then helps to support joints and make daily tasks easier, it strengthens tendons, making them more resilient to the loads you put through them. It can even stimulate bone and cartilage production, leading to strong bones and healthy joints!

OUR REMEDIAL CLASSES CAN HELP WITH:

  • Post surgical rehabilitation

  • Prehab for surgery (increase your strength prior to surgery to improve the outcome)

  • Shoulder rehabilitation for rotator cuff tears and other shoulder injuries

  • Lower back pain

  • Pelvic girdle pain

  • Knee and ankle injuries

  • Treating pain related to posture

  • Hip and groin pain

  • Post natal strengthening

  • + More

Our Remedial exercise classes are designed to supplement your current physiotherapy treatment, or act as a bridge between individual treatment sessions and self management. They are run by our physiotherapists, who know your body inside out!

THE CLASSES

Our classes run during the school terms. In our classes, you will work independently in a small group under the supervision of a physiotherapist using the Pilates large equipment (reformer, split pedal chair, trapeze table), therabands, weights, foam rollers and any other equipment needed to assist with your recovery. To gain the most from the classes, like any other form of exercise, you need to do a series of classes over a period of time.

HOW TO JOIN OUR CLASSES

Not one person or injury will be exactly alike. Therefore, to get the most out of your classes at Balanced, it is important we start with a series of individual appointments.

We use these appointments to discuss your injuries and/or conditions, perform a physical assessment to determine the source of your pain, along with any contributing factors. We teach you the exercises and the principles of Pilates. The length of this initial process is different for each person, as it depends on the severity of your injury and your ability to safely use the equipment and perform the exercises. Your physiotherapist will be able to give you an idea of how many sessions will be required after your first appointment.
